A Computer and Network Technician is the professional who installs operating systems and develops computer and server applications with web and database access. They also carry out general computer maintenance, and install and configure small local computer networks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Program Purpose<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The aim of the programme is to develop the techniques needed to install and configure digital communication devices and computer programs on network equipment. We will also look at how to fix faults, install and maintain cabling, and configure user access, email, printers, scanners, servers and network security functions. Trainees will acquire the knowledge needed to implement and maintain infrastructure, access equipment, operating systems and network services, and apply network security and technical standards.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Learning results<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>On completing the programme, trainees will be able to understand data processing, recognise the building blocks of computers and networks, and understand how resources are shared and how information is exchanged and communicated in an information system. They will know the process of designing and developing application software and the operating principles of Operating Systems. They will be able to assemble a personal computer and install a network using the appropriate equipment. In addition, they will know how to organise a computer systems maintenance workshop and deal effectively with any software or hardware problem. Finally, they will have the knowledge needed to propose complete networking solutions, from a home to a small business.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Units<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Unit 1 &#8211; Introduction to Computing <\/p>\n<p>In this unit, trainees will understand information technology as a unified science and identify its extensions, depending on the needs of each application. The aim of the unit is for them to acquire fundamental knowledge related to digital technology, its applications and the social impact of the digital revolution, and to know the structure, hardware and software of a computer.<\/p>\n<p>Asynchronous Learning<br \/>\nTraining duration (hours): 28<\/p>\n<p> Unit 2 &#8211; Transition to the circular economy <\/p>\n<p>The aim of the unit is to provide introductory and fundamental knowledge of computer science, so that trainees understand the structure of computers and networks, the types of networks and how the internet works, as well as communication protocols and security in information technology.<\/p>\n<p>Synchronous Learning<br \/>\nDuration (training hours): 33<\/p>\n<p> Unit 3 &#8211; Introduction to Programming <\/p>\n<p>The aim of the unit is for trainees to understand the concept of a program, learn about the history of programming languages and types of programming, and the techniques used to create programs correctly. More specifically, they will understand the techniques of hierarchical program design and modular programming, and the process followed from writing a program to its final execution by the computer and obtaining the results.<\/p>\n<p>Synchronous Learning<br \/>\nTraining duration (hours): 17<\/p>\n<p> Unit 4 &#8211; Operating Systems and Information Systems <\/p>\n<p>The aim of the unit is to introduce trainees to basic topics in operating system architecture, and in particular to familiarise them with concepts such as processes, memory management, etc., and the characteristics of a multi-user system; to topics in the architecture of the most popular operating systems; and to the concept and importance of information systems.<\/p>\n<p>Asynchronous Learning<br \/>\nTraining duration (hours): 14<\/p>\n<p> Unit 5 &#8211; Organisation of Computers and Networks <\/p>\n<p>The aim of the unit is for trainees to be able to distinguish between categories of computer systems, describe basic computer architectures, recognise the main units of a personal computer, and describe the elementary operation and main characteristics of each main unit of a personal computer. As regards networks, they should understand the concept of a computer network and the advantages of using one, recognise the types of copper cable (UTP, FTP, STP) and their characteristics, explain how stations are connected to a network using copper cable, categorise the types of optical fibre, their characteristics and the equipment needed to connect to the local network (media converters), and know the active equipment of a local network (Hub, switch, router).<\/p>\n<p>In-person Learning<br \/>\nTraining duration (hours): 65<\/p>\n<p> Unit 6 &#8211; Working on Computer Systems <\/p>\n<p>The aim of the unit is for trainees to name and recognise the differences in the characteristics of the individual devices installed (RAM, auxiliary storage units, processors, keyboards and special function keys); to describe and recognise the different types of motherboard; to recognise, name and explain the use of the ports they may find built into a motherboard; and to describe and recognise the most common processor sockets (CPU sockets). In addition, they will be able to choose an operating system and applications for the user, depending on the requirements of the work to be carried out and the capabilities of the computer system.<\/p>\n<p>Synchronous Learning<br \/>\nTraining duration (hours): 21<\/p>\n<p> Unit 7 &#8211; Support for Computers and Network Infrastructure <\/p>\n<p>Unit 7 \u2013 Support for Computers and Network Infrastructure<br \/>\nIn this unit, trainees will learn to recognise and identify problems that arise at the level of computer system and network hardware, software and, in particular, the operating system. They will learn to recognise the risks that threaten the computer system and the mechanisms for dealing with them; to know what viruses are and how the operating system can be protected from them (prevention); to describe how a firewall works and be able to configure it; and to make backups and restore them.<\/p>\n<p>Asynchronous Learning<br \/>\nTraining duration (hours): 11<\/p>\n<p> Unit 8 &#8211; Technical Specifications of Hardware and Software <\/p>\n<p>The aim of the unit is for trainees to acquire full knowledge of the technical issues and specifications of computer system hardware, whether personal\/desktop or portable systems; to know the basic functions and specifications of peripheral devices; and to know the characteristics and specifications of computer software,
