Basic IT Knowledge or Computer Handling Skills<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Brief description of the Training Program<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This programme is a comprehensive approach to the basic skills that a digitally \u201cliterate\u201d citizen and professional needs in today's working environment. It covers the use and functions of the popular Windows operating system and the Office applications, which are the basic computer tools for use at home and, even more so, in the workplace.<\/p>\n

Program Purpose<\/strong><\/h4>\n

On completing the training programme, participants will understand data processing and information gathering using software, and the concept of the digital world. They will know how to use Word, one of the most popular word-processing programs, to create and edit texts for personal or professional use. They will know how to use Excel to carry out numerical calculations automatically, making it easier to produce balance sheets, financial statements and any spreadsheet application. In addition, they will know how to create visual presentations and develop multimedia slides, which may include text, images, video and sound, with PowerPoint. They will also know how to enter and process numerical data, create tables, and design and display data, at basic and advanced level, using Microsoft Access. Finally, they will understand how to manage personal information and email with Outlook, and how to use the internet and web browsers.<\/p>\n

Learning results<\/strong><\/h4>\n

On completing the training, participants will become familiar with the commands of basic and advanced computer applications, helping them with settings, customisation, folder hierarchy and printing. They will know the procedures for word processing, data entry and editing, and drawing. They will be able to use a computer to process data, enter and process numerical data, and design and present data. They will also know how to organise the processing of text and images. Finally, they will be able to use a computer to handle e-mail, enter and process data and contacts online, and use the various forms of messaging to make their everyday and working life easier.<\/p>\n

Units<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Unit 1 – Basic File Use with Windows 10 <\/p>\n

The aim of this unit is to familiarise participants with the tools and commands of basic and advanced computer applications, to help them with settings \u2013 customisation \u2013 folder hierarchy \u2013 printing in Windows. On completing the unit, participants will be familiar with the basic features and functions of Windows, as well as with managing folders and files. They will be able to use the computer for settings \u2013 customisation \u2013 folder hierarchy \u2013 printing at basic and advanced level, so that they can use it effectively for both personal and professional purposes.<\/p>\n

Unit 2 – Introduction to Word Processing <\/p>\n

The aim of this unit is to familiarise participants with the tools and commands of basic and advanced computer applications, to help them with document editing. On completing the unit, participants will be able to use a word processor effectively, from simply typing a text to creating written professional documents for printing, formatting them appropriately using paragraph settings, different fonts, inserted images, spelling correction and tables, and finally to use mail merge to send documents to multiple recipients.<\/p>\n

Unit 3 – Introduction to Spreadsheets <\/p>\n

The aim of this unit is to familiarise participants with the tools and commands of basic and advanced computer applications, to help them with spreadsheets. On completing the unit, participants will be able to use a spreadsheet application to carry out financial and accounting operations, simple and complex calculations, create data lists, produce advanced reports and charts, carry out forecasting and trend analysis and statistical and financial analysis, and also use the built-in programming language based on Visual Basic.<\/p>\n

Unit 4 – Introduction to Databases <\/p>\n

The aim of this unit is to familiarise participants with the tools and commands of basic and advanced computer applications, to help them with Databases. On completing the unit, participants will be able to use the computer for data processing, entering and processing numerical data, and designing and displaying data, at basic and advanced level, using Microsoft Access. They will create, modify, format, save and use tables and the relationships between them, queries, forms and reports, and create buttons for specific functions, combo boxes, list boxes and menus.<\/p>\n

Unit 5 – Presentations <\/p>\n

The aim of this unit is to familiarise participants with the tools and commands of basic and advanced computer applications, to help them with Presentations. On completing the unit, participants will be able to use the computer for Presentation Design, using text, images, music and animation. In this way, they will make use of the capabilities of PowerPoint to create engaging presentations that hold the audience's attention. New techniques for producing slides make it easier to prepare presentations and make them more sophisticated and professional.<\/p>\n

Unit 6 – Internet – Email – Microsoft Outlook <\/p>\n

The aim of this unit is to familiarise participants with the tools and commands of basic and advanced internet applications for sending email and organising calendars \u2013 contacts \u2013 so as to help them work with online applications. On completing the unit, participants will be able to use Email and understand how it works and how it is used. They will know the advantages of email. They will be able to organise their messages into folders, create and use contacts, the calendar and tasks, search for messages, and use all the tools related to creating, sending, copying, receiving and deleting messages, replying to the sender and replying to all recipients of an incoming message, forwarding a message, attaching files to a message, and receiving, opening and saving attachments, etc.<\/p>\n
