KEK KEPETH, which has operated continuously since 1991 delivering Lifelong Learning Programmes, is organising, in cooperation with KEK MASTER, a series of seminars on the training of port facility security staff.
Ports are an essential link in the entire transport chain. Recognising the risk, in December 2002 the International Maritime Organization (IMO) amended the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS Convention – Safety Of Life at Sea) and adopted the international code for the security of ships and port facilities (ISPS Code – International ships and ports security).
The security planning followed includes, in principle, the Security Assessment where the vulnerability of critical functions, infrastructures and equipment and the consequences of an illegal action against them are examined, in order to select appropriate mitigation strategies.

Training of staff providing security & guarding services at Port Facilities:
According to the law 1877/12.09.2008 the staff of the private company providing security services available at the port facility is required to hold the work permit of article 3 of law 2518/1997 and to be trained or proven to be trained by recognized to the for this purpose training centers in the interior or in the countries of the European Union, before undertaking the task of providing security services at the port facility, in accordance with the requirements of paragraph 18.2, of Part B of the ISPS Code.

- Risk assessment, security measures on ships and port facilities (possible improvement of the existing security plan).

- Metal detectors and scanners, Detection of suspicious envelopes, packages and parcels.

- Principles of fire fighting.
- Health and safety in ports (providing first aid in the event of an accident).
