Port Facility Security Officer (YALE)

Port Facility Security Officer (YALE)
The KEK KEPETH, which has been operating continuously since 1991 with the aim of implementing Lifelong Learning Programs in collaboration with the KEK MASTER, organizes a series of seminars concerning the training of personnel guarding port facilities.
Ports are an essential link in the entire transport chain. Recognizing the danger, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in December 2002 proceeded to amend the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS Convention - Safety of Life at Sea) and the adoption of the international code for the safety of ships and port facilities (ISPS Code – International ships and ports security).
The security planning followed includes, in principle, the Security Assessment where the vulnerability of critical functions, infrastructures and equipment and the consequences of an illegal action against them are examined, in order to select appropriate mitigation strategies.
Training of Port Facility Security Officers and their deputies:
According to the National Legislation, in order to take on the duties of a MAS and deputy MAS in a port facility, one must have, in addition to the required knowledge of the ISPS Code, a higher education degree and experience in the field of security of commercial port facilities or merchant ships. The training program is based on the relevant guidelines of the IMO and the provisions of our national legislation in which the persons who will be called to work as MAS and deputy MAS in a port facility should have all the required knowledge as described in Chap. 18.1 of Part B of the ISPS Code to perform the duties and responsibilities provided for in the provisions of Chapter 17.2 of Part A of the ISPS Code.
