KEK KEPETH, as a certified Lifelong Learning Centre (KDVM), runs mandatory “Food Hygiene and Safety” training programmes (EFET seminar) for food handlers.
Under Ministerial Decision 110581/2025 (FEK 2161/B’/06-05-2025), which came into force on 01/01/2026, a single framework was established for the mandatory training of food business staff. Food businesses are required to train all their staff who handle food, in accordance with EU Regulation 852/2004.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The programme is aimed at workers in the food business sector. It covers people who produce, process, store, transport or distribute food, or who work in retail, food supply, catering and confectionery, or in food production or processing workshops, as well as cleaning staff in food handling areas.
People holding an official university/TEI degree (or recognised equivalent) in food safety and hygiene are exempt.
TARGET
The programme aims to ensure quality, the production of safe products and consumer protection, in accordance with Regulation 852/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs.
PROGRAM DURATION
The basic training programme for food handlers lasts 8 hours. Training takes place either in person or through online training.
AFTER COMPLETION
On completing the training, trainees take EFET online exams (e-exam). If they fail, they have three attempts within 30 days. Those who pass receive a Certificate of Successful Training valid for 5 years.
